Burragumbilli beer takes the next step to ensure purity by using only Certified Organic ingredients. The main goal of organic farming is to provide nutrient rich, healthy soils from which healthy plants can be grown. Nutrient rich, healthy plants are less prone to diseases and pests. Organic farming practices also use other innovative, non-chemical techniques for farming in harmony with the environment.
Our barley and hops are grown without industrial fertilizers, pesticides, weedicides or fungicides and therefore are without the common chemical residues of conventionally grown crops. Hops in particular are very susceptible to fungal diseases and conventionally grown crops generally require fungicidal applications. Organic hops must be grown with wider spaced plants and rigorous pruning to improve sunlight penetration and airflow to restrict fungal infections.
Organic malts usually have a lower protein content that produces a clear mash and less haze problems in the finished beer. These malts generally have higher mash efficiency and a faster fermentation. (Mash refers to the process by which crushed malts and other grains are placed into a vessel and steeped at various temperatures in order to convert the starches in the grains into sugars). Organic malts and hops also have no chemical residues to interfere with fermentation to give the organic brewer a clean, unadulterated beer. Organic lager has exceptional clarity without the use of harmful chemical fining agents, and it has a clean, flavourful taste.
So if you are drinking any beer which is not certified organic you will most likely be imbibing a chemical cocktail which is harmful to your health. It can include the residues from farming processes, storage/preservative requirements, several of which are carcinogenic, as well as residues of industrial cleaners, and chemical additives to the brew such as flavours, colours, and preservatives. Of the over 9 chemical processing aids commonly used by breweries, at least one is a well known human carcinogen, and others have well understood harmful effects on human physiology.
